About

Our goal:

Our goal is to improve the availability of data and understanding of what works in therapy. We aim to provide quantifiable, evidence-based insights that can guide individuals in therapy towards the most effective tools, approaches and practices and help them to get the most out of their therapy experience.

Our approach is simple: we survey individuals and analyse openly available data to quantify the effectiveness of various therapeutic tools and techniques. Whether it’s the use of mindfulness practices, mental health apps, or specific therapy methods, we want to to discover what truly makes a difference when working towards self-improvement. The insights we gain are not just theoretical; they are practical, actionable, and shared openly so that everyone can benefit.

Who we work with:

The Mental Health Data Project is for anyone invested in the process of self-improvement and mental health care. Our primary audiences are:

  • Individuals in Therapy: We support those who are actively engaged in therapy and want to know more about the most effective approaches to their mental health challenges. Our data-driven insights can help them better understand their progress and make informed choices about their treatment.
  • Mental Health Professionals: Therapists, counsellors, and other mental health practitioners can gain valuable information from our research into what clients find most effective. Our goal is to help professionals enhance their practice with evidence-based knowledge, improving overall quality of care.

What we do:

We offer a range of services aimed at improving the understanding of what works in therapy:

  • Data collation and visualisation: We gather and present open data in a way that is easy to understand, helping to identify trends and insights in mental health care.
  • Research into tools and techniques for self-development: Through surveys and interviews, we conduct small-scale research to uncover what tools, techniques, and approaches have the most significant impact on mental health recovery.
  • Blog and insights: Our blog will offer analysis and commentary on the latest findings in mental health care, with a particular focus on therapy practices in the UK and beyond.
  • BrainMetrics: We’re developing a mental health app called BrainMetrics, designed to support people on their mental health journey. This app will be linked to our website and promoted as a tool to help measure and enhance personal progress.
